Dr.-Ing. Karl Kalina completed his studies in Mechanical Engineering at TU Dresden in 2015.
He obtained his doctoral degree in 2021 at the Chair of Numerical and Experimental Solid Mechanics, TU Dresden. His PhD research focused on multiscale modeling and simulation of magnetorheological elastomers.
Dr. Kalina is currently a postdoctoral researcher at TU Dresden, where he leads the Data-Driven Material Modeling Group at the Chair of Numerical and Experimental Solid Mechanics. His work concentrates on the application of machine learning in solid mechanics, with particular emphasis on neural network-based material models that satisfy physical principles by construction.
He further developed this research through research stays at Stanford University and Columbia University.
Since 2024, Dr. Kalina has also been a postdoctoral researcher in the Research Training Group 2868 at TU Dresden.
