Lucía Gutiérrez

Lucía Gutiérrez is a Scientist at the Instituto de Nanociencia y Materiales de Aragón (INMA), a joint research centre of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the University of Zaragoza (UNIZAR).

She obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Zaragoza (UNIZAR) and has developed her scientific career through several international research positions, including postdoctoral stays at Queen Mary University of London, the Institute of Materials Science of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC), and the University of Western Australia.

Dr. Gutiérrez is co-founder of the Spanish Nanomedicine Society (SENM) and serves as coordinator of the Nanomedicine Connexion at CSIC.

Her research focuses on magnetic nanoparticles for biomedical applications, with particular emphasis on their synthesis, physicochemical characterization, and interactions with biological systems.

She has co-authored more than 100 scientific publications covering topics such as magnetic hyperthermia, biodistribution and degradation of nanomaterials, quantification and detection of nanoparticles in complex media, and the influence of surface chemistry on particle behaviour.

Her scientific contributions have provided key insights into the in vivo and in vitro behaviour of magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles, contributing to the advancement of therapeutic approaches such as cancer hyperthermia as well as diagnostic imaging techniques.
